-selective information - a numerical measure of the uncertainty of an outcome.
-randomness - a thermodynamic quantity representing the amount of energy in a system that is no longer available for doing mechanical work.

I am surprised I
was able to leave middle school. I have cold sweats
thinking about timed arithmetic quizzes. I have a
hard time with fractions. I am even worse with
decimals. I know how to calculate a tip, sure.
(It’s a dollar for every drink, right?) My
deficiency in mathematics aside, I am intrigued by
entropy. My mind only grasps a certain amount of
its meaning. I like to think about measuring or
quantifying disorder. I studied photography with
Melissa Shook at UMB and she was fond of referring
to the “photo-gods” and their ability to bless me
with an occasional great image. I never
consciously, or for that matter unconsciously,
created anything of worth; it was pure whim and
happenstance occurring from even before I leveled
the lens at my subject. I give into the notion that
with my art, I measure disorder and loss of
information, uncertain of an outcome that is
reached by chance alone. I don’t know what that
even means! But somehow it makes sense.
